Life coaching with equines (equine-assisted coaching) is a therapeutic and experiential approach that involves partnering with horses to assist individuals with increasing personal growth, self-awareness, and emotional well-being. It leverages the unique qualities of horses and their natural instincts to assist clients in achieving personal or professional goals.
Due to their highly sensitive nature, equines will react to people based on the person’s energy, emotions, and body language. Equines provide immediate feedback, which assists the rider in gaining insight into emotional and behavioral patterns. The life coach assists by helping the rider identify these patterns and help you gain better emotional regulation and self-awareness.
The life coach and rider will work collaboratively to identify goals for the session. These could include personal development, career challenges, relationship issues, or emotional healing. Activities with the equines such as navigating obstacles, grooming, or connecting with the horse are designed to foster communication, trust, and self-reflection. Breakthroughs often occur during debriefings when the rider is asked to reflect on their thoughts, emotions and behaviors during their interactions with the equine.
During the couple’s equine-assisted life coaching, the couple will be led through a series of obstacles as well as grooming and connecting with the equines. Common goals include communication, conflict resolution and building trust. The life coach will observe the couple’s interactions with the equines and each other. During the debriefing, the couple will discuss insights gained, and the life coach will help the couple tie these insights to the relationship while providing feedback for improvements.
Group equine-assisted life coaching fosters a sense of community, support and shared learning as individuals are observing and interacting with their peers while working with their equine partners. The coaching addresses various aspects of personal and professional development such as building confidence, improving communication, leadership skills and emotional awareness.
